Preschool Attendance and Intra-Household Time Allocation: Evidence from Brazil

This paper aims to identify the indirect effects of preschool on intra-household variables related maternal labor supply, older sibling’s domestic, productive work, and demand for education siblings. We used Constitutional Amendment that makesmandatory attendance from 4 years old onwards as identification strategy, we this discontinuity perform an RDD fuzzy estimation. Results show child’s at increases mother’s average weekly working hours by 26 but does not affect offered siblings in market. In addition, intervention siblings’ household chores low-income families.
